Abstract

The Orthodox Congregational Church in Cambridge, Illinois was formed on February 9, 1851, in the house of Nelson Gaines, with eleven founding members. Sometime before 1880, the church changed its name to the First Congregational Church. The collection contains two volumes of records which include meeting minutes, church manuals, membership lists, baptismal records, and church ledgers.

Abstract Cambridge, Massachusetts, was fist settled in 1630 and the first meeting house was erected in 1632. Public worship began in 1633 with Thomas Hooker and the First Church of Cambridge was formally established in 1636 with Thomas Shepard as the first minister. In 1650, 1706, and 1757 the second, third, and fourth meeting houses were constructed. Abstract

In 1725, citing the long distance required to attend worship services, a group of parishioners from the First Church of Christ in Cambridge requested that a precinct be formed in Menotomy village, now Arlington. This request was granted in 1732 and the Second Church of Cambridge was formaly gathered in 1739. This collection contains the original covenant of the Second Church in Cambridge. which was created during the formation of the church.

Abstract The land that became Camp Talahi, in Howell, Michigan, was purchased from the Young Women’s Christian Association of Detroit in 1949. A nonprofit trust was created in 1951 by the Congregational Association of Detroit and the Michigan-Indiana Synod of the Evangelical and Reformed Church to manage and operate the campground. Abstract William Banfield Capron was born in Uxbridge, Massachusetts on April 14, 1824. Sarah Brown Hooker was born in Lanesboro, Massachusetts, on April 24, 1828.
