Abstract The town of Lancaster and the First Congregational Church in Lancaster were established on November 28, 1653. The first and second meeting houses both were destroyed during Native American raids as part of larger geopolitical movements. The third meeting house was constructed in 1706 and the fourth in 1743. During Rev. Timothy Thayer time as minister, the church adopted Unitarian tenants and the fifth meeting house, designed by Charles Bulfinch, was constructed. In 1970 the church joined the...

Lawrence, Mass. Riverside Congregational Church records, 1876-1881.

Abstract In the start of 1875, members in Lawrence began to consider organizing under a church. In June of that year, the Riverside Evangelical Church was organized with Frank Hugh Foster as acting pastor. The evangelical phase continued for three years until members voted to join the Congregational Fellowship in 1878 and became known as the Riverside Congregational Church. The church is still open today and will be celebrating its 140th anniversary in 2018. This collection contains two record books...

The South Congregational Church was established in 1868; it was a formalization of what M. C. Andrews and J. B. Fairfield started in 1852 when they established a Sunday School. This collection contains meeting minutes and reports; financials; membership ledgers including births, deaths, and marriages; social and auxiliary groups; newsletters; and orders of worship.
