Biographical Note

Agnes Gardner Buttrick was born on September 15, 1893 in Surrey, England. She married Rev. George Buttrick and they would have three children together, John, George (who went by Robert) and David. She died on May 28th, 1990 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Rev. George Buttrick was born in Northumberland, England on March 23, 1892. He graduated from Victoria University of Manchester in 1915. He worked in several different churches before becoming minister of Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City. He would then work at Harvard University as preacher to the university and Plummer Professor of Christian morals until his retirement in 1960. He married Agnes Gardner and they would have three children together, John, George (who went by Robert) and David. He died on January 23, 1980 in Louisville, Kentucky.
