Abstract

Frederick Stevens attended Yale and served the Southington Connecticut Congregational Church. Mary Gridley lived in Southington and attended the Lewis Academy. She married Frederick Stevens in 1887. The collection consists of essays, sermons, pastor diaries, clippings, and commencement programs.

They were married in 1892 and had five children together: Agnes Gardner Buttrick (1893-1990), Annie Gardner Glover (1895-1934), Evelyn Gardner (1897-1990), Gladys Gardner Jenkins (1901-1994) and Rev. Abstract The origins of South Congregational Church start in 1874 when women from the Park Avenue Congregational Church organized a Sunday School. This would eventually lead to a "Mr. Gilbert" donating land for construction of a chapel. The new chapel was located between Sheldon and Jefferson on Delaware Street and finished in 1876.
