The Congregational Foundation for Education was established in 1921 by the National Council of Congregational Churches. The program was created to help facilitate the relationships between the various churches in the Chicago area. The group worked to make resources and education available across all churches. In 1927 the foundation merged with the Congregational Education Society but maintained the same name after the merger so that the organization could receive any bequests made prior to the merger.
