Historical Note
First Congregational formed out of the efforts of Rev. Marcus Harrison and those that agreed that disagreed with the pro-slavery position of nearby churches. Harrison and around 60 others broke away and formed the First Congregational Church on March 6, 1841. The original building would give way to a few different locations until the current church, built in 1860. The First Congregational Church joined the UCC and continues to operate to this day. In July 2017 the church was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
