Abstract The American Congregational Association was formed in 1851 as the Congregational Library Association. The Association was formally incorporated in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1854. In 1864, the organization changed its name to the American Congregational Association in recognition of its broader scope. Abstract The First Congregational Church in Chelsea began as the Winnisimmet Congregational Church in Chelsea, MA in 1841 with Rev. Isaac P. Langworthy as pastor. In 1851, the church split into the Broadway Congregational Church which renamed itself as the Central Congregational Church in 1871, and the Winnisimmet Congregational Church which built a new edifice on Chestnut St in 1852.
