Historical Summary

Evelyn Gardner was born on December 16th, 1897 in England. She received a bachelor’s degree from Beloit College in 1918 and a master’s degree from Radcliffe College. She taught at Carleton College, Pomona College and the College of Pomona. In 1933, she became the Dean of women at Grinnell College and stayed there until she retired in 1963. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and listed in “Who’s Who of American Women and the “Directory of American Scholars”. She died on January 23, 1990 in Columbus, North Carolina.
