Papers date from 1866 and consist of one (1) handwritten letter and two (2) published pieces of literature. Collection is in good condition and has been housed in an acid free folder.

Papers detail the condition of Freedmen in the post-Civil War South. Letter describes one woman's work with Freedmen in Macon, GA with the American Missionary Association, and literature calls for supplies and donations to assist with education efforts throughout the South.

Abstract Reverend Robert Henry Davis was born in Frederica, Delaware on August 28, 1944. He graduated with a B.A. and M.A. from Amherst College and Bangor Seminary in 1871. He would be offically ordained in 1872. In 1878 he went to work in Japan as a foerign missionary. He would be there for 8 years until returning hope in December of 1886. Afterwords, he worked as the pastor of North Conway, New Hampshire. He would spend his last years of life living with his wife in Olivet, Michigan. He would die...
