John Mack was born on March 7th, 1942, in New York City to Grace and Lewis Mack. He was the middle of three children and was raised in New Canaan, Connecticut. John attended Union Theological Seminary and received his Master of Divinity degree in 1971. While there, he met his future wife, Barbara Gerlach. Robert Wood (1923-2018) was ordained as a United Church of Christ minister and was a pioneer in the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) movement. Rev.
