Abstract

Joshua Thomas Tucker (commonly referred to as “J.T. Tucker”) was an American minister from Massachusetts. This collection contains a volume of twenty-five manuscript sermons from J.T. Tucker during the Civil War while he was a minister in Holliston, Massachusetts. Also included is an autobiographical memoranda and a theological common-place book.

Shortly after the formation of the First Congregational Evangelical Society in 1833, members of the First Church voted to worship with this society, and in 1835 the First Parish and the First Evangelical Congregational Society were incorporated as the Union Society. Abstract Richard Cordley began working as a pastor in 1857, working in Lawrence at the Plymouth Congregational Church. The congregation moved into its first permanent building, called the "Stone Church," though not completed until 1862. Cordley was an abolitionist and supported the free state movement. Later that year, the Society united in a church organization called The South Church of Christ in South Hadley. Abstract The town of Stoneham was incorporated in 1725. A vote in 1726 provided for the building of a meetinghouse and the First Congregational Church was organized in 1729. The first pastor was Rev. James Osgood who was ordained in September 1729. Rev. John Cleaveland was pastor from 1785 until an ecclesiastical council dissolved his relationship with the town in 1894.
