Abstract First Congregational formed out of the efforts of Rev. Marcus Harrison and those that agreed that disagreed with the pro-slavery position of nearby churches. Harrison and around 60 others broke away and formed the First Congregational Church on March 6, 1841. The original building would give way to a few different locations until the current church, built in 1860. The First Congregational Church joined the UCC and continues to operate to this day.
