Biographical / Historical

The Kensington Congregational Church grew out of a Danish Mission which began November 8, 1891, under the direction of the Rev. Niels N. Bormose, in Enterprise Hall, Kensington Avenue and Huntington Street. On the first of October, 1893, the Mission moved to a building at Kensington Avenue and C Street. . . . On June 20, 1895, Mr. Bormose called his workers together for the purpose of organizing as a regular church, twenty-two individuals agreeing to associate as the Kensington Congregational Church.

Abstract

Includes Constitution, Meetings, Committees, Annual Reports, Correspondence; the majority of this series are monthly meeting minutes. The early ledgers have some vital statistics mixed in, as is the nature of ledgers. The first box includes the oldest ledgers as well as the oversize material within the series. The last part of the final box includes the remainder of the correspondence, some Membership material, and the only dedicated building-related material. Series 2: Financial Ledgers 1940s-50s [bulk] All but one folder of this series are ledgers. Most of those range from 1944-1956. The final book is 1967-1977. Further financial information is integrated into monthly and annual The Sunday School and the Ladies Aid/Women's Fellowship make up the majority of this series. Be aware that the Sunday School ledger that covers the 1920s and 30s was wet at some point and there's a major concern regarding mold/mildew. The latter half of the series includes worship service programs, anniversary pamphlets, and a church history dated back to the 1940s.
