Abstract

The Winthrop club was founded in 1858. It was named for its original meeting place, The Winthrop House, it was established to provide social and intellectual environment for its members to discuss matters of theological understanding. Eventually the meeting place was moved to the Congregational Library and Archives. The collection contains record volumes which consist of meeting minutes, member lists and correspondences. Lectures and discussions are described, and sometimes transcribed or copies of written form lectures. Also included are photographs of members, printed pamphlets and various memorabilia.

Contents arranged into three series and each individual series is arranged chronologically.

Series 1: Church records and correspondence, 1855-1990.

Series 2: Meeting minutes, 1858-1990.

Series 3: Photographs and memorabilia, 1865-1958.
