Historical Note

The church gathered in 1714 as First Church, formerly north Truro or Cape Cod precinct to 1727; referred to as Church of the Pilgrims; vitually extinct by 1740 due to population decrease in Provincetown; reorganized in 1769 and 1774; closed in 1830 and reorganized in 1841; closed a third time in 1950 when it deisbanded, according to Richard Taylor's book The Churches of Christ of the Congregational Way in New England. Notes within the collection indicate the church may have actually closed in 1943.
