The Church of Christ was gathered on October 28, 1724 with Ebenezer Parkman as its minister. During the First Great Awakening, both George Whitefield and Johnathan Edwards preached at the Church of Christ. Construction began on a second meeting house in 1748, and the first service held there was on September 3, 1749. After 58 years as the church's minister, Ebenezer Parkman died on December 9, 1782. In 1825, shortly after the first train station opened in Westborough, the church reformed as the First Congregational Society.
