Vertical Files, 1881-1978
Scope and Contents
This series contains organizational vertical files. Some files appear to be personal files. Topics cover a broad array of the Society's early history, programs such as Friendly Town, mission unit evaluations, and outreach. Records relating to the Seminarians Organization for Racial Justice, the 1968 Democratic Convention, riots, and resulting marches are also found in this series. No information is known regarding the original decision making process to associate items in this series versus the subject file series. There are missing folders from time of deposit.

Arrangement
Researchers will at times find records numbered within folders. As a result, original order and numbering was retained from time of deposit. Therefore, in this series researches will find the folder numbers on the left or middle of folders instead of the right as in the rest of the collection. Because original order was left intact, researchers will also discover late 19th century foundational CCMS records at the end of this series in boxes 20 and 21.
