Abstract
The town of Lancaster and the First Congregational Church in Lancaster were established on November 28, 1653. The second meeting house was constructed in 1684 and the third meeting house was constructed in 1706. The fourth meeting house was constructed in 1743. Rev. Timothy Thayer was ordained in 1793; a member of the Unitarian movement, he liberalized the church during his pastorate resulting in some members withdrawing to form the Evangelical Congregational Church in 1839. Abstract
The town of Lancaster and the First Congregational Church in Lancaster were established on November 28, 1653. The first and second meeting houses both were destroyed during Native American raids as part of larger geopolitical movements. The third meeting house was constructed in 1706 and the fourth in 1743.
