Abstract
Cambridge, Massachusetts, was fist settled in 1630 and the first meeting house was erected in 1632. Public worship began in 1633 with Thomas Hooker and the First Church of Cambridge was formally established in 1636 with Thomas Shepard as the first minister. In 1650, 1706, and 1757 the second, third, and fourth meeting houses were constructed. Abstract
In 1725, citing the long distance required to attend worship services, a group of parishioners from the First Church of Christ in Cambridge requested that a precinct be formed in Menotomy village, now Arlington. This request was granted in 1732 and the Second Church of Cambridge was formaly gathered in 1739. This collection contains the original covenant of the Second Church in Cambridge. which was created during the formation of the church.

Iain C. G. Campbell was born in St. Albans, England on June 15, 1912. He graduated from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland in 1935. He was ordained as a Congregationalist in Omaha, NE in June 1952. He served as pastor in Albion, NE from 1950-1970, Fairmont, NE from 1957-1958, Weeping Water in NE, 1958-1974 and was a pastor emeritus from 1974-1997. He died in Lincoln, NE on December 22, 1997. Abstract
Charlestown proper was founded in 1628 and formally settled on July 4, 1629. The First Church of Charlestown was gathered in 1632. The church’s third meeting house was destroyed during the Battle of Bunker Hill and the fourth meeting house was not constructed until 1783 after the American Revolutionary War had ended.
