Historical Note

Volga Germans, also known as Russian Germans, arrived in Northern Colorado around 1900. They initially worked as migrant workers on sugar beet farm. Many later settled permanently in the region. The Volga Germans of Milliken, Colorado, formed the German Congregational Church in 1918. The first minister for the Church was Rev. F. Schlitzkus. The church joined with the United Church of Christ at some point after 1957, and may have gone by the name of First Congregational (Deutsche) by that time. The church closed in 1977.
