Historical Note
The Orthodox Congregational Church in Cambridge, Illinois was formed on February 9, 1851, in the house of Nelson Gaines, with eleven founding members. Beginning in 1853, the church began to accept contributions to build a house of worship; construction completed in 1855 and dedicated on January 12, 1856. In 1869, a parsonage was built by the Society. In 1875 the old church was sold and by 1877, a new brick church was built. Sometime before 1880, the church changed its name to the First Congregational Church. The church folded in 1917.
